May 20th, 2009

My friend just started his own website called foonzo at foonzo.com .  Looks really cool kinda like a craigslist type but has a couple of cool features in there.  He told me about the other stuff he will be implementing but not to tell anyone just yet :D

Great place to check out real estate in montreal like looking for an appartment in montreal or a condo in montreal stuff like that.  You can visit his website at http://www.foonzo.com/

You can also put up a rant about stuff going on in montreal or even be a journalist yourself and let everybody in montreal know what is going on in the guerrilla news in montreal :D  check it out its work the look.

Ubuntu 9.04 Google Apps

May 2nd, 2009

I just installed Ubuntu 9.04 on my IBM lenovo X61 and so far everything works great.  Now once I installed Ubuntu 9.04 the 3 programs from Google that I installed right away are the following

Google Desktop  http://desktop.google.com/linux/

What it does it indexes your computer and your gmail as well if you login in your prefferences.  This is a great way to find out where all your things are in your computer and in your email as well.  I have the windows key set as my hot key to prompt the google desktop.

Picasa http://picasa.google.com/linux/

Its still in Beta but works just fine.  The font is kinda shitty but its not like its not readable anyways.  Great for managing my pictures on my computer and also on my web photos.

Google Earth  http://earth.google.com/

What more can I say its google earth and it works great.  Its a little sluggish if you don’t have a good video card but the same thing is applied to any os with a poor video card.  Other then that it works right out of the box.

Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope IBM Lenovo Thinkpad X61 middle button scroll fix

April 30th, 2009

Just installed the new Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope and it is amazing. Fast boot time and great performance. Now the first thing I noticed was that the middle scroll button wasn’t working but after looking around I found a fix for that which is so easy to do. Here are the steps

First open a terminal Applications–>Accessories–>Terminal

Type: cd /etc/hal/fdi/policy

Then type: sudo gedit mouse-wheel.fdi

A window will pop up with nothing in it copy past the code bellow

<?xml version=”1.0″ encoding=”UTF-8″?>

<match key=”info.product” string=”TPPS/2 IBM TrackPoint”>
<merge key=”input.x11_options.EmulateWheel” type=”string”>true</merge>
<merge key=”input.x11_options.EmulateWheelButton” type=”string”>2</merge>
<merge key=”input.x11_options.XAxisMapping” type=”string”>6 7</merge>
<merge key=”input.x11_options.YAxisMapping” type=”string”>4 5</merge>
<merge key=”input.x11_options.ZAxsisMapping” type=”string”>4 5</merge>
<merge key=”input.x11_options.Emulate3Buttons” type=”string”>true</merge>
</match>

save it and restart your computer/laptop.

Xbox 360 home entertainment setup

April 5th, 2009

xbox-360-logo

Use your Xbox 360 as your home entertainment system. Watch your videos and pictures with your Xbox 360 and also listen to all your music as well.

Now I’ve tried to use the Xbox 360 media center and to be honest it sucks as far as file format is concerned. I have some videos that are not able to be played through it and I just don’t like the interface since it over complicates it for nothing.

The simple solution to this that I found was to use your Video Library, Music Library and Picture Library that is found under your My Xbox menu. When selecting any of those you are given 4 different options on where the data is stored. I’m going to show you how you can use the Portable Device option using an external hard drive to store all your media to view and listen on your Xbox 360.

A lot of people thinks that the only way you can use the Portable Device option is by using a usb key. Well actually you can use a USB external hard drive but you must make a small adjustment to make it work.

The Xbox 360 can only read Portable Devices that are formated on a FAT32 format and not NTFS. That is why your usb key works since it is by default formated as a FAT32.

If you are using Windows XP or Vista you will have a problem trying to format your external hard drive as a FAT32 or not be given the option period. There is a way around it!

First you must download this file from Ridgecrop here .

Extract the single EXE file to somewhere suitable, like C:\. Click Start->Run and enter cmd. CD to the where you extracted the fat32format exe, e.g. by typing CD /D c:\

Type this

fat32format f: (f: being the hard drive you want to format. It may be different for you like being the h: or d: which ever it is)

You should see this displayed

Warning ALL data on drive ‘f’ will be lost irretrievably, are you sure (y/n)

Before you go any further please make sure that you have backed up any information that is on your external hard drive as this will erase everything in it. Don’t say I didn’t warn you!

hit y and press enter. Your external hard drive will start formating and it shouldn’t take to long. Once its done your external hard drive is now compatible with your Xbox 360.

Now you can throw in all your music, picture and videos in your hard drive and put them in folders and stuff to better organize your files. plug in your external usb hard drive to your Xbox 360 and voila!

The cool thing of doing this is that the Xbox 360 is able to view several media format which makes it an amazing multimedia center for your home. Enjoy :D

Condoms spread Aids!!!!

March 30th, 2009

Omg everyone be careful there is this big epidemic where if you use condoms for the intention of safe sex you will get aids and spread it to everyone around you! Oh never mind that doesn’t apply to us only to people living in Africa. Man that’s gotta suck to live on a continent where condoms just spread aids. Now where in the hell did I get these facts? Well from the Pope himself!

Pope Benedict XVI made a statement quote “You can’t resolve it with the distribution of condom… On the contrary, it increases the problem.”

If anybody really believe this, they should at least check out the stats on the aids epidemic here at the UNAIDS.org.

PETA animal activist my @$$

March 30th, 2009

peta

Wow what shocking news. I would always hear about PETA protecting animals rights and stuff and doing some crazy stuff but seriously killing 21,339 cats and dogs since 1998 is hardly called People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.

So what does that mean? Hypocrite? I mean seriously I think they have good intentions when they founded this organization but they need to get their act together because with a $32 million budget they should really think on pushing more on animal adoption then tools for euthanizing pets.

Here are 2 websites I found about this one of them explaining the story itself in more dept at ConsumerFreedom

http://www.consumerfreedom.com/pressRelease_detail.cfm/release/258

and also another site that talks about it

http://www.petakillsanimals.com/

Enjoy the shocking read.

I have been looking all over the web to disable this damn light and after several forums, blogs and people saying its imposible well you know what IT IS POSSIBLE! I got it done by fluke and here I am to share it with you all.

1- Turn off your bluetooth ear piece

2- Hold down the power button and the volume down volume at the same time to turn it on

3- let go of the power button when the ear piece is on while still holding down the volume down button.

4- And voila! no more blinking!

If you are still having problems let me know and I will update but I’m sure it quite simple. For this to work flawlessly you must have already have previously paired your bluetooth earpiece.

Android apps for Canadians

March 30th, 2009

I got myself a Android HTC G1 phone and let me tell you, this is the best phone I have ever used.  I mean I went from Sony phone during the days of Clearnet (now Telus) to a samsung phone, nokia e61 and e71 (which is still a great phone) to the HTC G1 Android from T-mobile.

This phone is a great phone for anybody who is fully integrated with all the products and services that Google has to offer.  If you haven’t tried out Googles just click on the even more in the google website and you will see tons of stuff that is usefull.  Now enough glorifying google lets get back to the phone. Let’s get back to android apps for Canadians.

This is the top 10 apps that I find that are usefull or just plain fun to have on your phone being in Canada.  Unfortunately we don’t have the paid market place of the android so there is obviously no paid apps that I will list but if anybody knows how to get paid apps on your phone someone please let me know :D

1-  Wifi Lock –  This program is a must.  This is very good for any of you that has the phone on auto sleep or when you put your phone to sleep for you to be still connected to the wifi connections that you are on.  Since I connect to the wifi of several public places and they have a system where you log into their homepage to sign in to use their free wifi,  it tends to end your session when idle for to long.  This will make it so that you don’t lose your connection when your phone goes to sleep so you can stay up to date on the emails you get, im messages or even the hockey scores live.

2-  Scoreboard – Great application to keep track of your favorite sport team on a live basis.  Since I only watch hockey and I am a Montreal Candiens fan (sorry Mapple leafs fan :P )  I like to keep track on how my favorite team is doing and also check how many shots were made in each period.  It also lets you know when they score in your phone notification bar on top and also when it is the begining, end of the period including the end of the match.

3-  1337pwn.com – This app is only good for those who have an Xbox 360.  Great way to see your friends online status.  You can see the games they are playing and when they last login.  You can even send them a message to their Xbox 360 which is great to anoy them when they are in a stressfull situation in Left4Dead.  Also when they log on to their Xbox 360 or change games it notifies you on your notification bar on your phone as well.

4-  Twidroid – This is a very simple app to keep your Twitter account update on what you do on a daily basis.  I’m still quite new to Twitter so my Twitter account is quite empty but I will be filling it up as time goes so if you want to follow me my account is mongflex :D  Anyways Twidroid enables you to update your status, upload pictures and locations of where you are according to your gps location.

5-  Google Maps – This is an obvious but I recently feel in love with this ever since I got myself a cell phone mount for my car at http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.2029 Its not the greatest of quality but it does the trick perfectly :D Anyways I load up my google maps and voila I got myself a sweet GPS for my car.  You will need a dataplan for this since the wifi signal does not roam with you in my case I got the 30$ a month 1GB data plan from Fido.  The only downfall to this is that if you get a call your data streaming stops working while on call.  Kinda dumb unless I don’t know how to make them both work at the same time or maybe they will have a fix on it soon hopefully.

6-  Night Clock – Great app as a night clock and alarm.  Very big and visible and not bright so that you can have it next to you when you sleep and still be able to take a peek at the time.  To set the alarm is a mater of holding down the alarm icon and then just scrool up or down to the time you want the alarm to go off with an mp3 stored on your sd card.

7-  Video Player – Now I know the HTC G1 is not all that great when it comes to battery life but oh hell if you want to watch that episode of House or Stargate this is the apps that I think is simple and great to use.  You will first have to make the video file compatible for Video Player to be able to read it.  The program I use which is free is Videora iPod Converter http://www.videora.com/en-us/Converter/iPod/ a little anoying but still very easy to use and it works.

8-  Quickpedia – Its a wiki on your phone what more can I say.  But seriously the cool feature I like about this is the Nearby tab which lets you know with GPS what are the things are around you and you will be surprised on a bunch of stuff around you that you were not aware of.

9-  WeatherBug – This is the only weather app that works for me the best being in Montreal/Canada since it will show me the temperature in celcius, a forecast of the week and a graphical display of areas that are snowing, raining etc…  It also gives a bunch of other information that I don’t necessarely care about but for some of you it would be usefull like wind speed, altitude and the direction of the wind blah blah blah.  It also keep your up to date on the temperature on your notifcation tab on your phone which is great.

10-  Ringdroid – You know that mp3 song that you love to have for a ring tone but the beat you want happesn to be 2 mins into the song well with Ringdroid you can modify your ringtone so that its the best part of the song that is your ringtone.

If there is any more apps that I find that is usefull for Canadians I will let you guys know or if you find out something please let me know and I will give it a shout out.
