I have a IBM Lenovo Thinkpad X61 and I just installed Ubuntu 10.04 and all I can say I’m impressed.  I have used Ubuntu in the pass but I think they are really close this time to provide a free and easy to use operating system now.  One that works well with my laptop at least.  I know for others they are having some problems with their laptops but from what I see most laptops and desktop, Ubuntu 10.04 is perfect.

Now to the things you need to get working on your X61

The middle mouse button to allow you to scroll is a quick and easy fix.

Open a terminal and run each of the following for vertical scrolling:
xinput set-prop ‘TPPS/2 IBM TrackPoint’ “Evdev Wheel Emulation” 1
xinput set-prop ‘TPPS/2 IBM TrackPoint’ “Evdev Wheel Emulation Button” 2
xinput set-prop ‘TPPS/2 IBM TrackPoint’ “Evdev Wheel Emulation Timeout” 200

Add the following if you want horizontal scrolling:
xinput set-prop ‘TPPS/2 IBM TrackPoint’ “Evdev Wheel Emulation Axes” 6 7 4 5

If you do not want to run these commands every time you restart your computer, copy them to a script file.

In Ubuntu, create a new file in your Home directory called “Mouse_Wheel.sh”. Using gedit, paste the commands into the file and save.

Open the terminal and type:
chmod +x Mouse_Wheel.sh

Go to System > Preferences > Startup Applications. Click on “Add”, in the Name box type “Mouse Wheel” and in the Command box type “./Mouse_Wheel.sh”.

Turn your Xbox 360 into a media center http://www.mongflex.com/?p=28 http://www.mongflex.com/?p=28#comments Wed, 02 Jun 2010 05:04:56 +0000 admin http://www.mongflex.com/?p=28
Use your Xbox 360 as your home entertainment system. Watch your videos and pictures with your Xbox 360 and also listen to all your music as well.
Now I’ve tried to use the Xbox 360 media center and to be honest it sucks as far as file format is concerned. I have some videos that are not able to be played through it and I just don’t like the interface since it over complicates it for nothing.
The simple solution to this that I found was to use your Video Library, Music Library and Picture Library that is found under your My Xbox menu. When selecting any of those you are given 4 different options on where the data is stored. I’m going to show you how you can use the Portable Device option using an external hard drive to store all your media to view and listen on your Xbox 360.
A lot of people thinks that the only way you can use the Portable Device option is by using a usb key. Well actually you can use a USB external hard drive but you must make a small adjustment to make it work.
The Xbox 360 can only read Portable Devices that are formated on a FAT32 format and not NTFS. That is why your usb key works since it is by default formated as a FAT32.
If you are using Windows XP or Vista you will have a problem trying to format your external hard drive as a FAT32 or not be given the option period. There is a way around it!
First you must download this file here.
Extract the single EXE file to somewhere suitable, like C:\. Click Start->Run and enter cmd. CD to the where you extracted the fat32format exe, e.g. by typing CD /D c:\
Type this
fat32format f: (f: being the hard drive you want to format. It may be different for you like being the h: or d: which ever it is)
You should see this displayed
Warning ALL data on drive ‘f’ will be lost irretrievably, are you sure (y/n)
Before you go any further please make sure that you have backed up any information that is on your external hard drive as this will erase everything in it. Don’t say I didn’t warn you!
hit y and press enter. Your external hard drive will start formating and it shouldn’t take to long. Once its done your external hard drive is now compatible with your Xbox 360.
Now you can throw in all your music, picture and videos in your hard drive and put them in folders and stuff to better organize your files. plug in your external usb hard drive to your Xbox 360 and voila!
The cool thing of doing this is that the Xbox 360 is able to view several media format which makes it an amazing multimedia center for your home. Enjoy

Android apps http://www.mongflex.com/?p=16 http://www.mongflex.com/?p=16#comments Wed, 02 Jun 2010 03:39:17 +0000 admin http://www.mongflex.com/?p=16

I live in Montreal, Quebec, Canada and these are the apps I have for my android with a bit of details about what it is.

Spotcycle http://www.spotcycle.net/

Great app that enables you to see BIXI stations in Montreal and to see if a station has bikes available or not.  Great way to find out if the area your going to has a spot for you to park your bike when your done or else your stuck biking in the rain looking for a place, not that it ever happened to me………ok maybe it did.

TransportMontreal http://www.rhatec.net/

Another great app for Montreal and its surrounding.  Provides information for bus and metro for Laval, Montreal, Longueuil and the metropolitan area of Montreal.  Now you don’t ever have to wait forever at a bus stop.

TD Bank

Just found this really cool app for your Canadian TD Bank account.  Great software just have to put in your card number and your password you use to login to your online TD Bank and there you go.  Its good that it prompt you to input your password all the time you access it which is a great thing to do for security especially for banking.  Now your not able to actually send money or pay bills but its good to be able to see your balance and also to locate a TD green machine in your area using gps location on your phone.

Nexus One http://www.mongflex.com/?p=12 http://www.mongflex.com/?p=12#comments Wed, 02 Jun 2010 02:19:28 +0000 admin http://www.mongflex.com/?p=12

So yeah I got myself a Nexus One from the google website where you can buy it http://www.google.com/phone

You can buy it using your credit card.  Now I’m from Canada in the province of Quebec so I got myself the second option which is

Supports three 3G/UMTS bands (850/1900/2100 MHz) and four GSM radio frequencies (850/900/1800/1900 MHz)

Make sure you get this one if your in Canada as the GSM radio frequency in Canada are a bit different.  The difference is that when you get a call and your talking on your phone the gps and internet won’t drop during the call where as if you get the other one that is made for the United States it will.

So imagine driving around using your gps for navigation and you get a call and voila your lost on your google map.

Now I didn’t get any of the extra accesories you can buy with it since well the phone itself is US$529.00 which according the XE.com in Canadian dollars its 555.867 CAD.

The accessories even though I can’t say much about it are really cool and convenient to have if your the type to get accessories that are design and made by the phone manufacturer.

This includes a dock for your phone which does charge your phone and can be used ,with the cables provided, to connect to your come stereo system to allow it to play music from your phone.

The other one is a dock for your car which allow its to automatically load the driving app in your Nexus One.  From the youtube videos I saw about it, it seems like a great piece of equipment for those who want to have a car adapter.

Lastly its a spare battery for the phone.  Personally I didn’t get it since there was no charging decide for the battery so it was pointless for me to lug around a battery when I am going to be charging my phone anyways later on in the day.

If you want to know about the technical specs of the phone visit this website

GSM Arena
http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_google_nexus_one-3069.php

When I got the phone all I did was put my sim card in the phone.  Now I do recommend that you fully charge the phone first before turning it on so that you can have a full battery and enjoy your phone.

Setting up the phone is really easy but for those who have a data plan from their cell phone provider you will have to manually input the settings.  Now I’m with Fido so here are the settings to have your data plan internet working.

Fido APN

Name: fido internet
APN: internet.fido.ca
Username: fido
Password: fido
APN Type: default
(all other fields blank)

Thats it your ready to go and have fun with your Nexus One.  Congratulations :D
